5 ways to demonstrate your expertise as a coach or similar

you are more of an expert than you believe you are - i will show you how

I’ve recently delivered a well-received keynote talk and a longer more interactive session called “How to be known as and feel you are an expert”.

It explores what an expert is, how to own your expertise and the inner blocks to overcome to step into your unique expertise.

I’m sharing a piece of it here.

I’ve identified 5 ways you can build your expertise, and therefore show you are an expert in your topic area*, in your marketing.

* you can’t be an expert at everything, you need to niche down and focus on something.

Think narrow and deep not wide and shallow.

KNOWLEDGE

SKILL

EXPERIENCE

PRACTICE

TRAINING/ EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS

You don’t need to have all 5, so lean into the 2 or 3 you feel strongest in and demonstrate your expertise in these areas.

With the caveat of... all coaches, therapists etc need to be suitably qualified to coach, advise and hold a safe container for their clients - especially in the unregulated coaching industry.

5 ways to show you’re an expert coach:

1. Knowledge

The breadth and depth of knowledge on your topic area brings a level of expertise to the table.

Show your knowledge through useful tips, practices, step-by-step guidance and sharing your unique process that gets results for your clients.

2. Skill

Your skill (whether that’s natural or learned) sets you above others and into expert status.

Share stories about how your skills get results, or how you’ve navigated a challenge.

3. Practice

Having a lot of practice in your topic area brings a huge amount of mastery to the table.

Talk about how long you’ve done something for, share the nuances or shifts you’ve discovered over time, show you know your stuff through your years of practice.

4. Qualifications/Training/Education

Having studied something to a certain (high) level shows a level of expertise, but on its own, it’s not enough.

Talk about relevant qualifications, training courses and education and what it enables you to do. Show the level of training you have reached and how you use that to get results.

5. Experience

Having a lot of professional and personal experience in your topic area positions you as an expert who can help you avoid pitfalls and show you the pathway to success.

Tell stories of your professional or personal experience that demonstrate positive outcomes and learnings.
