The growth of the coaching industry

The coaching industry is growing fast.

According to several reports I looked at (which tbh were confusing as it was not clear whether the stats included life coaching and/or business coaching, included only professionally-trained and registered coaches or ALL coaches), the coaching industry is worth a lot of money ($6-25 billion), is growing fast at 7-12% (in both revenue and number of coaches) and the growth of women coaches is outweighing men.

The coaching industry is completely unregulated - anyone can call themselves a coach, a healer, a spiritual guide, a channeller or anything else similar. We use a lot of different terms now and none of them mean the practitioner is adequately trained or qualified.

This industry growth is due to the rising awareness of coaching benefits, and increasing corporate demand for executive coaching as well as personal development.

Basically, it will become commonplace to have a coach, as coaching becomes more mainstream.

The growth of the internet, digital platforms, and social media is a large part of what’s driving the industry growth as it is easier and easier to find a coach online. 

So, there will be more and more coaches working online, not all of which will be adequately and professionally trained.

So although the volume of coaches is increasing, the quality is likely (sadly) to decrease on average.

The trend towards coaching platforms where people can get advice online at a low cost will start to drive prices down. 

Many potential clients will shop around for the cheapest and believe they are getting ‘proper’ coaching when they are only getting access via a digital product, app, online course or book.

And you don’t want to be at that bottom end of the market, scrabbling around for cheapskate clients.

How to survive and thrive

So, how can you not only survive as a coach, but thrive in the long-term?

If you’re not content to earn ‘just enough’, to get lost in a sea of sameness and struggle to find premium clients, here are my 5 tips.

1. Unique Magic Activation

It will be more and more important to differentiate yourself from others so you stand apart from the competition. By knowing and owning what you are uniquely amazing at and crafting your whole business around this, you will attract those aligned, premium clients who will truly light you up.

2. Expert Positioning

The more you specialise or niche down (and that doesn’t necessarily mean niching on ideal client) and elevate your unique expert positioning, the better results you will get and the more you will attract premium clients willing to pay premium prices.

3. Be yourself, be different, be unique

Embrace all parts of you; the woo, the weird and the wonderful (your quirks, talents, intuitive gifts, stories and personality) so you show potential clients who you are. Be real, personable and vulnerable. People buy from people they know like and trust.

Don’t blend in, be bold and stand out, especially in your enticing core messaging.

4. Energetic Expansion

Do the inner work to be a more fully healed person and a better coach. This includes being adequately and professionally trained.

But also as a business owner, you will need to expand and uplift your beliefs about what’s possible, so you can implement the elevated, aligned strategies, charge more and constantly be uplevelling your business.

5. Soulful Strategy

By raising your game and crafting an Energetic Business Model™️ with goals aligned with your soul vision and a scalable revenue plan, you can charge premium prices and attract aligned premium clients more consistently.
